Floating Flames
floating flames is the title of my thesis project, it consists of 22 paintings inspired by and following a short story by Haruki Murakami called "Landscape With Flatiron" which is from the book "After The Quake""After The Quake" illustrates the lives of Japanese people after the disastrous Kobe earthquake, in the story, the characters all have very different backgrounds and are trying to recover from a life-changing disaster and their passion brings them together for bonfires. the prominence of fire in this short story, and what it represents was one of the things that made me want to work on this project, fire represents a source of life and the flames are the passing moments of life that fly away before we know it, even in the worst times of our lives, as long as the fire is alive we will prevail. I tried to capture the atmosphere and personality of each character, Each illustration is inspired by a specific part of the book, and this collection isn't meant to fully follow the storyline that is in the book I tried to create paintings that could be presented without the need for a text.
